Multiple Types of Racism In America

Racism In America Continues.......
Welcome reader,
Before addressing the issue, let me lay out some key terms- inequality, racial profiling, white racism, Asian racism, racism today, racists, racial inequality racism in America today, American racism, individual racism, and prejudices. Each term will be addressed in this hub and you will learn the direct cause for each. You might not consider some of them to be factual or even be deceptive in nature, but each are truly happening within the borders of the United States of America and require your attention.
As you notice, I said- "requires your attention". That simply means that I want to dismiss any misconceptions anyone has heard about with regards to racism being gone from American society. It is more than obvious, to any conscious person who pays attention to others, like people watchers, which I am personally, that the concept of racism is continuing in America.
Racists, Racism Today and Racial Inequality...
Okay, let's start with "Racists"- this is a person who dislikes for whatever reason, someone of a different race. It doesn't matter what race, just one that is not the same as them.
Are there racists in America? You better believe it and be very aware of it, because if left unchecked in it's present state, then you'll see what I am of the understanding, will come to pass- A Racial Civil War!
Yes, folks. I've already seen this "racial" Civil War coming and is the primary reason for this hub. To raise awareness of citizens. It is important for you to believe it, because of a simple action that took place, the day Barrack Obama became The President of the United States of America.
Yes, it was a history day, but it also shattered other records, less known to the average person. The record I speak of is in the recruitment cycle of the "White Power" groups in America on the day Obama won the election. The following day, the largest "White Power" group in America signed up over 2000 new members.
Racial Inequality Continues In America
Racial inequality...Does it actually exist? Of course it does, because racism still exists. If you thought for one second that racial inequality was non-existent, then you were only fooling yourself. There are plenty of people who despise people of another race, and prejudice against them for many reasons.
Racism today and Racism in America, are tough subjects to talk about, because too many people get hot under the collar, the second you bring up it up in conversation. They rather not talk about it and when they do talk about racism, then you have no reason to wonder why they do not like to talk about racism.
People still believe America is a Nation of Equality...? The problem is that many do not understand equality, in and of, itself, and prejudices begin to fly, before thought can be used. If you are seriously interested in learning about "Equality", then when done reading, read another one of my hubs- "How Does Equality Survive In Capitalism?". It is a very enlightening hub and then you'll more than likely understand the true meaning of "Equality" in America.
White Racism and Asian Racism.....
Now, as I bring forth the titled terms- "White" Racism and "Asian" Racism, I would like you to not cringe at the thought, but would like you to be aware of the fact that both White Racism and Asian Racism are also very much alive in America.
White racism is brought on by everyone of another race, who dislikes those who are white. Now, even those who are not white are mistakenly hated, because they look or appear white, but are not really white. This shows how ignorant people are about racism and also shows how emotions cloud rational thought.
Asian racism is a new sort of racism in America. It does not have the history of "black" and "white" racism, but is destructive nonetheless. A lot of "white" and "black" people, do not care for Asians coming to America, because it creates less opportunity for them. This is the bottom line for Asian racism. It's not so much about "color", but for other reasons.
White Racism - American Racism - Individual Racism
Just in case you're not enjoying my article so far, I would like to let you know, I am not surprised. I am a "white" male, about 42 years of age and managed to live my entire life, taking racism as a pinch of salt. Individual racism is actually a myth. It doesn't exist. You are either a racist or not. There cannot be an individuality to racism. American racism is a breeding process that continues to go on within families and generations. Why? Stupidity actually.
I have had people of another color, sneer at me, because I happen to be better at something than they were and was recognized for it. I've had some make claims against me, trying to insinuate that I was a racists or that I perpetuated racism in America.
I, personally, have no racial judgment, because I do not look at people based on their racial make up, which means, I do not use racial profiling of any sort. I do however, make judgments based on actions. If your actions deceive even you, and you cannot tell what you actions are saying to other people, then I think the time has come for a little self-evaluating.
Racial profiling, and prejudices.....
Yes, I will be the first to admit that racial profiling, and prejudices continue to haunt citizens in America. It is done by many people, who are unwilling or refuse to properly understand life. They are obviously missing some kind of knowledge and wisdom about living life, for which, continues to escape their feeble mind.
And prejudices, also continue to exist and I can vouch for it, as a witness, because I have and still to this day, continue to see it in the actions of many people, even though they do not know I know about them. The thing that gets me the most is that people truly believe that they can hide their racist prejudices, but every time they open their mouth or take action, they give themselves away.
Some people are ignorant enough to believe that just because someone complains about another person, it is racially motivated and this I know from first hand experience. My mother works very hard at her job, and I know that because, as a kid/child, I use to go to work with her and watch how she did her job. Please do realize, my mother has been at the same job for over 30+ years and she would not have kept her job, if she was a slacker, per se.
White Racism and Racists, and Prejudices..
My mother has to deal with racists in her workplace, and prejudices. She has an administrator who is "white", the top dog of the Nursing Home where she is employed. She has an immediate supervisor, who is "black" and another boss type, who is the immediate supervisor, to her immediate supervisor, who is also "black".
To be clear, my mother isn't a racist, in the sense of the word, because she doesn't give a damn what people look like, she just simply rather work with people who are actually going to do work and not just sit on their ass, and do nothing. That comes from her own work ethic.
She does hate people who are lazy or slack off at work, because it makes her job even more difficult. She happens to work with two other "black" people, for one, were not trained properly, so that doesn't help. Secondly, both of them are lazy and refuse to do the job, as my mother knows how. They constantly complain about her, and spew hateful remarks at her, while she works. Each one constantly demeans her work to the two supervisors above them, so as to get her written up and fired. This sort of action can only come from white racism and racists.
Only racial hatred makes people liars...
People who are racist, continue to be liars. They perpetuate demeaning remarks and try to exploit racial hatred, so they can make themselves appear to be a better person. It only takes a half educated person to listen to their words and notice that their actions are that of a racist.
So, on a serious note- How to change? Or, Bring about change in America? Well, first off, citizens need to be more aware of racism and racist remarks, as for what they are truly. Those who do nothing, only help continue racism in America.
So, I ask for your help, whenever you get a chance, because you are seeing it in action, do something about it. Do not sit by and let it happen. Take a more active role in protecting others, because it's the right thing to do. Do not do it for one race and not another, because that too is a sign of racism. When a person of a particular race is acting out, in a racist way, bring it to their attention. Make sure they are aware of their action.
If they tell you "damn straight, I'm racist", regardless of why, then inform them that they are not helping the situation nor apparently they do not understand life.
Thank you for your time

What a beautiful concept co-exist. I had in the past often found my self thinking those things that I may not wish to think. Then I realize it made me feel as if I 'fit in' within the society I stood nearest at that moment. Now, I care not who I stand with, color, age, religion, staright, gay, big or small, each find a place in my heart on their own merit. All are loved, but some I would simply rather walk on the opposite side of the fence from. I enjoyed this read very much. You make wise assessment and courages claims.

Cagsil, how bizarre for me to see this today. One because a hub I am writing, and two because I am writing a strategy for inner city or ghetto areas, within the United States.
It is true, these areas are black, latino, and Hispanic, in that order. Before we keep driving towards world peace, let's start saving our children from the streets.
People fear what they don't know. Or believe things they have heard and are afraid. Jews hate blacks, chinese hate Japanese, whites hate blacks and yes, blacks hate whites, no different than rich snuff the poor, beautiful laugh at the ugly, managers look down and belittle secretaries.
All I can add, truly is I have spent a great deal of time in inner cities in two states, not one white person, not fun, but I feared no one, how big, how black, how rich, how tall, pimps, thugs, gangsters, dealers, prostitutes, thief's, and 99% black. That's the USA. I've walked through tent city downtown LA then took the metro, got lost in Compton, after 3 gun shots, yes I was afraid, cops just don't go there.
An old man who too was black, in a wheelchair, no legs, almost blind said get your back to the wall, luggage in front of feet, look down, do not look up, he pulled out a pistol and simply said the train is almost here, I can feel it. He would take no money, nothing. Said goodbye and warned me not to return, white folks aren't very well liked on these streets.
My long winded point is yes, we all have prejudices. My cousin is black and when we hang people stare, as if we are a couple. But brings up a whole new hub, what about inter racial marriages and children? I say I am not a bigot, but for sure think it is wrong, but really, who am I to judge?
My favourite line is, speaking to a black person, 'Oh I am not prejudice, I do not see colour, everyone is the same" Now who they talking to? Themselves, best I can see
If someone is black it's because they are black, same with whites etc etc etc
Canada has a huge multicultural population, largely in Toronto where I live. I would bet all I have we have more prejudices than the USA, and sneaky, mean, hidden hate, literally. I was for some time living in subsidized housing, mostly black and ran the same way your inner cities do. I held my own and eventually got some respect, but also knew I had to be smart. Prejudices ran ramped there, again no whites, and being tiny and female didn't help much
I'll shut up with this, I now live in a building complex, quite well off, with a west and east tower both buildings each 27 stories high with 8 units per floor, and not one black person lives there,
not because it's so expensive, but if you were black, would you want to? My cousin or black friends come to drop by and while we sit in the car stares and fear I promise, inflate, so getting upstairs is what you can imagine it to be.
My father was the worst, foul mouthed, ignorant, mean, aggravating bigot I have ever met. I am grateful for that today, I believe it is why I am not, I do get pissed and other cultures, but individually and as much as white, but not as an entire group of ethnic cultures.
Except the French, never liked the French. Great Hub Cagsil, an issue so desperately needing to be discussed or it will never change. Sad. and Scary! Lots to think about and please don't remind me I ramble, and hope I got my point across through personal experience, once again great Hub! Thank you
Not much I can say on this one as I am from, and still live in, the United Kingdom. Our problems in this regard are nowhere near those that you encounter. Perhaps it is in the name: United. But then again you are talking about the United States. Perhaps it is our history of Kingdomship, rather than a confederation of states, or is that confederations and states? I could never get that right.
From the heat and mind once again.
Good words on racism. I'm a mix, half Creole half Dutch. When I'm in the Netherlands they call me black. When I'm in Surinam they call me white. I say, let us keep mixing and wait a couple of generations. My mother is pure creole, dark brown almost black and my father is pink, white.
My mother use to say to him: who gets red when shy, who gets blue when hit, who gets yellow when fever, who gets purple when angry, who gets pale when sick. And they call me colored?
anyway, thanks for sharing this.
I visited the US several years ago now and was actually surprised at the level of racism that I observed, coming from the UK, which is generally regarded as being a quite tolerant country I found the US to be very in-tolerant. However saying that the level of racism in the UK is getting worse and worse as people begin to see high levels of immigration into the country, something that many see as a threat to their jobs, and way of life.
Very good hub as usual!
It is sad but true that racism exists in the united states. Although it is better than it was when I was little. Children today seem to be color blind which gives me great hope for the future.

The more I read your hubs on American issues, the more scared I am.I am completely from the other side of the globe and feel much safer sitting here.
There is one thing I don't understand-why would one(who has immigrated) turn a racist in a country that accepts him/her and is giving the person full freedom as a citizen of that country.
This hub reflects the amount of hatred amongst human kind. After reading a lot of recent racists attacks on Indians in Australia,I thought US was safe.Though I knew New Jersey reported attacks on Indians by Americans years back,I felt for sure it was all over now.But now I feel newspapers got tired of reporting them.
Kudos to your mom for being so courageous. If I were in her place I would have left the job.
Very well written hub.

It's very hard for people to admit that racism goes both ways. I listen to people saying "I'm not racist but..." all the time! I try to explain that I am all for equal rights, but there is not such thing! The Equal Rights Amendment still hasn't passed. If we can't even get the 38 states together on that single issue, how can we expect the people who are governed by the laws of these "United States" to live in "equality"? I am living proof and would write about it, if legally allowed, that equal rights are not equal for all. Unfortunately, I signed papers saying I wouldn't talk about what happened to me...
This is an accurate writing. However, I have said this before too and I've gotten replies like: "Oh come on, America has gotten way past that." Have we? Maybe that is why it is so rampant, people being racist and Then not admitting it. Great hub.
Saw the link for this on the forums. Well done, Cags. I cannot endorse the central message of this hub strongly enough!
It's disappointing for me to realise that, where I am (Australia), racism is still a big problem.
The biggest problem though is that people don't think it's a problem. In fact here, to publicly claim that Australian society is racist is to invite ridicule and anger. Although Australia is relatively multi-cultural, and racism is publicly acknowledged as being "a bad thing", it continues to exist in covert form...
And that form is another type of racism which I think is worth mentioning in the context of this article: unintentional racism. It is perhaps amongst the worst because it is camouflagued (sp?) beneath good intentions, or just plain ignorance. Example? In Australia we have something called "the stolen generation" - a generation of aboriginal children (during the 50's and 60's) who were forcibly removed from their families and placed into Catholic orphanages due to concerns over the ability of their natural parents to raise them "appropriately" (read: in a European style).
Although things have changed substantially since then, the underlying dynamic of Kipling's "white man's burden" remains. In a more modern - and possibly US context - any government policy which has the effect (forget intention) of either discriminating based on race, or creating "race-based" outcomes, is in itself racist.
For what its worth, i'll never understand racism - or people who even see colour in people for that matter. As you say, we all bleed the same...but to put it more positively, as a young man who's sewn his oats far and white, we all love the same, too. Really.
The value of a person lies in the choices they make, and their quality as a person - not some imaginary attribute like "race." I just wish more people could see it!
Keep up the good work:-)
I find it funny that you seem to think that humans can coexist in a world without conflict
It is impossible unless you can change NATURE
The best we can do is make people aware
Even the awareness will make some take offence
I find your view on religion funnier
Just because we Christians don't agree with some of the Ideas that are brought before us. We are ignorant and closed minded, yet all the wise opened minded people can dismiss christian view so easy without retort
Well writen hub cat you have valid points
but I don't think we will ever have total equality
later
Sorry that you feel I have more to learn
I dont think there will ever be equality not from my own view but because of human nature in general (survial of the fittest)
ALL of history shows us conflict even within peaceful times
As far as Christians, You made my point, I am narrow to closed mined because I say I am a christian yet You are Opened Because you think you have a understanding of "larger scope of things"
Yet I must wonder Where Your eduction comes from
I make a example
Being a Jack of all trades master to only cooking
I look at meatloaf
small diner woman has been making meatloaf for 20 plus years but if it is NO GOOD does that make her an expert? Or does the kid straght from culinary school that makes a great meatloaf get credit? or vise versa
My point just because some one has all this eduction does not mean he/she is right
Just because some one has a new Idea that is different means he/she is wrong
And sorry for saying CAT instead of CAG
later

Raymond, it's so nice of you to absolve yourself of being a racist and point the fingers at everybody else.
I think the time of playing the race card is over, and that's just what it was a marketing ploy, to use guilt to get an incompetent, inexperienced racist, named Barack Hussein Obama to office, so he can destroy what's left of America.
sorry, I'm being so harsh, but I've really had it up to here!!!!
Well, let me tell you that over the past 3 years, when I pointed out suppressed information on Barack Hussein Obama, I was always called a "racist." I myself am married to a dark skinned man, and also have a mulatto grand-daughter. However, nothing seems to be good enough for those who want to play the "race card' to shut you up from telling the awful truth.
The person who wrote this article is a moron. Oh, I'm sorry. you wanted some facts for that?
Brilliant argument: anyone who does not share your opinion "does not understand life"...why? Oh, that's right, because they disagree with your brilliant "logical" arguments like "racial discrimination exists" because "racism" exists...so because people do not like certain people, they automatically discriminate against them? Where's the proof? Document it.
Ach, who cares. And the fact that you call "White racism" hatred by whites towards others, yet "Asian racism" not hatred by Asians towards others, but yet another episode of white-based hatred reveals how blinded you really are by your dogma. You can only see one side of the coin. And of course, the idea that Asians can be racist towards others because they think that they are superior would never cross your mind, because in your mind...all people are the same and race is just the color of skin. It is not a culture, or a group of people who tend to enjoy the company of their own, or a people who come from the same area originally and have old traditions.
And it is through my life experiences, particularly interacting with people like you, that leads me to believe that people who want to live in their own communities with people who think like them and share a common heritage should be allowed to do exactly that. Or, we eliminate race and ethnicity entirely by destroying ALL races and ethnicities.
But none of this "fight white supremacism" and "fight racial hate"...under the banner of Atzlan or Malcolm X. But you are too stupid probably to see what that is ironic in the first place.
Rant over.
Hi, Raymond. I remember my mother telling me what her mother used to say - never hate anyone for what they look like, where their people are from, their religion...except, of course, the Hungarians. Now my mother thought this was very funny, and it kind of is. But so many of us think we are open minded and loving of our fellow man, but that tribalism just pops up when you least expect it. It's a nasty business and sure popped up during and after the last presidential election.
Your car is Japanese. Your Vodka is? Russian. Your pizza is? Italian. Your kebab is Turkish. Your vacation is Mexico. Your democracy is Greek.? Your coffee is Brazilian.? Your movies are American. Your tea is Tamil.? Your shirt is Indian.? Your oil is Azeri. Your electronics? are Chinese. Your numbers Arabic, your? letters Latin. And you complain that your neighbor is an immigrant? Pull yourself together! Copy if you're against racism
Racism against Asian people is not new. Back when they came to build the railroads and work in the coal mines they were called all manner of names because others thought they took jobs they deserved.
We need to learn to tolerate each other and cohabitate together. I don't know when or if that will ever happen but it would be a beautiful thing.
I can't disagree with anything on this hub.
It's really hard to ignore it when one encounters it at workplace , at restaurants....there is definitely a racial uproar about to emerge at the civilian level. It's going to be an ugly mess.
Great hub and commentary....racisism is alive and well today on many levels. My 23 yr old daughter had a friend over - I said I would babysit her friends baby so they could go to the movies. Incidentally the baby was black, I took her to the grocery store with me...while I bounced her on my hip in line...the lady behind me said, "how old is the baby" now I was paying & paying half attention....and I said "hmm I don't know?" she gave me a disgusted look and said "you don't even know how old your own baby is?" she almost shouted at me!
I think she was assuming too much and I just didn't think she would have talked to me if my baby had been a white one - she was rocking on her heels all looking down her nose at me...I should have said, "well I just stole the baby and so I didn't get a chance to ask her real mommy how old she was:)
I agree Cagsil - my husband and I feel very strongly that the girls need to be raised to see that we are all the same, if you peeled our skin back - no one would know what color / race you were. We all have the exact sme insides! Well that is how I try to explain it because they are small and don't get the ridiculousness of it yet but they have heard stuff at school already!
I think that race based fears and prejudice have to be some of the easiest vehicles for manipulation of the masses of any state that there has ever been.
In this way, at least - the move towards global governance is worthy....in thought.
I DEFINITELY don't agree to global government! Not with bankers in charge....
Without trying to sound too new age hippie or anything, I saw a video the other day that basically stated that whenever someone identifies a group based on race or ideology as "evil" that they in fact, give power to that group; and that the actual problem is - is that they are failing as an individual to recognize the very thing that they "hate" within themselves.
Whether or not that's true or makes much sense...I dunno, but I do know that I often see people "projecting" their own failures on other people or groups. It's an interesting thing to try to get ahold of - and as you say, definitely based in ignorance.
Cagsil...
Sadly... racism as been apart of this country since long before its foundation. The English colonists who arrived in the 17th -century did so against the backdrop of Great Britain's subjugation of Ireland...
I should think it is hard to subjugate a people without feeling racially/culturally/politically superior to those you dominate. It was a mind set that worked against the Native inhabitants once they were the new target.
Other groups...Africans, Hispanics, and Irish. Southern and Eastern-Europeans, each, in their turn...
The Gentleman's Agreement and Japanese Exclusionary Act of 1902...sought to curb Asian incursions on the West Coast. Sad.
You were right to write this Hub Cagsil and I am glad I found it.
As a Nation our ideals are high as they very well should be. In order to meet those ideals...to make the reality match the rhetoric...people need to be honest with themselves and their history.
Thanks,
Thomas
Interesting to read, because for some reason I imagined that Americans would be better than others on this. Ignorance and fear is hard to fight, and when it grows into racism it is even worse. Some of it comes from not understanding and not recognize a behaviour and we must all fight this behaviour. Judging people because of their skin or birth place seems so old fashioned. But it goes on daily and everywhere it seems. It takes time to change attitudes but you do a great job writing about it!
Tina
Cagsil,
Great hub. Love you challenging us. Keep up the great work and I miss you. We will count down the days til you return. The world is a brighter place with you.
Communicating about racism is the first line of defense. Protecting equality, protecting children are tasks that we must each take upon us. Our soldiers are risking their lives. I cannot support my grandson and my friend's children who are in the military with my mouth closed.
Words of kindness and respect to protect the beautiful diversity that God has graced us with is the least we can do to make humanity joyful to all.
Voted up and Awesome! Thank you for addressing such a sensitive topic in America. We are all born with love in our hearts unable to see racial divides. It is the things we are taught that steer our perceptions of others. I'm old enough to remember when inter-racial marriages were new and publicly a big deal. Today there isn't such a spotlight on the issue and many have become comfortable with the idea. I think the world 20 years from now will be much different because many people aren't teaching their kids to see racial lines. People are simply people, some are good and some are bad. I think racism is motivated by fear. The thing about fear is that you can't instantly feel it unless it is preceded by a thought. So if you don't have the thought, you don't have the fear, and you'll see fear is simply and illusion. Thanks for sharing : )
Sometimes I wonder if Republicans calling Obama a community organizer was racially loaded language. Also Gingrich calling Obama a "food stamp president," with the connotation being African Americans on welfare under an African American President.
These appear to be deliberate attempts to stoke racial attitudes without coming out and saying anything directly. Calling Obama a Muslim also is a pretty obvious ploy, especially with some lower-level Republicans saying they are "undecided" on the issue.

Well, racism has existed from time immemorial and will continue until Christ returns. If it is not race, it is something else. Man is dtermined to not get along with man (himself).
Love and peace,
Forever His,
