Kirsten Caroline Dunst was born to Klaus Dunst, a German medical-services executive stationed in New Jersey. The rest of the family resides on the West Coast. Klaus split from Inez Dunst, a former art-gallery business owner.

Kirsten also has a brother Christian, born in 1986. Kirsten began in showbiz at 3 years of age, where she filmed over 70 television commercials. She debuted in her first feature film in 1989, in a segment of Woody Allen's New York Stories. After that, in the same year, her family moved to Los Angeles and her career took off from there. She is of Swedish and German descent.

In 1995, she was named one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People. It wasn't until 2000, until Kirsten was to have her biggest year yet - she received excellent reviews for Lux Lisbon in the film The Virgin Suicides. She showed Hollywood that, she could handle a leading actress role and starred in the comedy Bring It On.

She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles. She works on her own production company with her mother called Wooden Spoon Productions. The name symbolizes women and creativity. It was inspired by her grandmother, who used wooden spoons to keep her in line when she was a girl.

Name is pronounced "Keer-sten" (not "Kur-sten").

She was called back to re-shoot scenes for Get Over It while filming the first Spider-Man movie, which explains why her character suddenly goes from blond to red in a few scenes.

So many teen films are overproduced and people are going to burnout on the subject.
