Women Writers of HubPages Happy Valentine's Day!

It's a pleasure to have you reading my Tribute to the Women Writers of HubPages. The collection of profiles/bios and pictures were granted to me for posting, so you can learn more about them. Each Woman you find on this hub contributes to HubPages as an author. Some of them write for the love of writing and many write to generate monthly residual income streams.

I wanted to pay tribute to Women in general because every woman in the world should be appreciated by someone else. The value Woman have within the world's community is important. It always has been that way regardless of what many people think. Women add their own uniqueness to every topic, beit politics, religion, life, character, love and many others. Some like to display their inner thoughts via poems/poetry. Many reveal truth and honesty.

You can read their brief profiles/bio which were given and see an actual real picture of the each author. So, the picture you see here might not be the same as what you will see when you click on the profile link provided. Those who participated willingly accepted and shared themselves with you. So, have fun reading their profiles and enjoy checking out their articles.

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you have a Wonderful day!

P.S. Happy Valentine's Day To ALL Women of HubPages! Have a Wonderful Day also!

Denise Handlon

I’ve been a writer with Hubpages since May 2010. I discovered this writing community purely by accident in a serendipitous way and have been happily writing since. My work crosses a wide range of material and many genres. At various times I’ve participated in the 30 hubs in 30 days Hubchallenge, the Weekly Topic of Inspiration, and various contests…most recently, the Patrons of the Arts contest in which I challenged myself to write more poetry. I love setting goals for myself, and like many writers here, hope to be published beyond Hubpages one day. I enjoy writing children’s stories and plan on seeking publication this year.

My life has been an interesting journey of experiences and locations, and I’ve met a wonderful cast of characters along the way-all good material for future stories. Although I am currently working as a nurse, my previous jobs have included working as a dishwasher on the beautiful resort: Mackinac Island, in Michigan; owning and operating a dance studio, (a former passion of mine); and working as a library page for two years while in high school.

Besides bringing two, healthy children into the world, some of my more memorable moments in life have been touring Europe with daughter, Cara; meeting dancer, Mikhail Baryshnikov; and driving a 12’ U-Haul with a flat-bed trailer carrying my Sunfire out of Alaska, through the Yukon and BC and into the U.S. to California. That was me, on crutches due to a right knee sprain, and my driving partner, a 72 year old, former truck driver, Audrey, whom I dropped off in Washington.

My philosophy is, ‘every experience brings opportunity for learning!’

While I favor bragging up my two daughters and four grandkids, my topics have ranged from cooking recipes, to travel spots, to my spirituality, which includes my blog, The Inner Journey.

http://aheartofawarrior.blogspot.com/ written under the name: Truthseeker.

I’m thrilled to be sharing this forum with so many talented female writers, including my sister: Danette Watt, and my daughter, Cara, (cardelean), both whom have been inspirations to me. I love the community support that I’ve received here and have a strong circle of friends I’ve come to know and appreciate.

Hats off to Cagsil for creating this hub this Valentine’s Day honoring the ladies!

Homesteadbound

In August of 2011, homesteadbound was born, and I was profoundly changed forever - more on that later. Let’s start from the beginning.

I was raised in Nazareth, a small town in the panhandle of Texas. The town itself has maintained its population of 250; however, I actually grew up on a farm 3 miles outside this thriving metropolis. My grandparents raised me and my two younger sisters from the time that I was 7 when they got legal custody of us. Despite the fact that my father was a very abusive alcoholic, he continued to live with us.

I loved living on the farm and really do miss it. I have dreams of returning someday and that is the reason I choose my username, homesteadbound.

At the age of 18, I moved to Waco to attend Texas State Technical Institute completing my Associate’s degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design. I also met a Baylor man that I married in 1980.

After 16 years of marriage and not being able to have any children of our own, we adopted an older sibling group of 3 children through Child Protective Services. The next 10 years can only be described as a living hell, which finally ended when the youngest (only one still at home) tried to kill my husband. The police arrived, (after I called 911 while trying to kick and pull him off of my husband) arrested him, and he spent the next 6 months in jail until he turned 18.

Although I had spent 16 years developing a career as a Senior Associate Mechanical Design Engineer, I had to quit work because the kids could not be left home alone because of the harm they were to each other. I was never able to break back into that field.

In 2002, I started a non-medical in-home caregiver services agency, On the Wings of Angels. I was able to run this business out of our home and be available for the kids at the same time. Although the agency is struggling with the economy, it still remains our only source of income. It is because of the experience that I gained during this time period that I am able to write extensively about the issues of aging, especially Alzheimer’s.

And because the business was struggling, while searching for a job I ran across a HubPages ad in the newspaper in August and I took up writing as a fourth career. (I did teach Drafting courses at a community college and a trade institute for a while.)

Until HubPages, I always said I hadn’t figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. At the age of 52, I guess I figured it out – I want to be a writer. It has been a wonderful six months with so many surprises along the way. I would not trade these months for anything. People comment on how happy and content I now look. That’s because I am! This square peg finally found the place to plug herself into. A special thanks to all of you at HubPages for being the friends that I will always cherish.

VictoriaLynn

I’m starting a new phase in my life. I have worked as a social worker, a nursing home administrator, a high school Spanish teacher, and an English Composition instructor at the community college. (I’m not going to count the six year stint at McDonald’s throughout high school and college!) All of these experiences have somehow led me to where I am now, which is looking to those degrees and qualifications to supplement my income while I turn to my first love: writing. Coming to HubPages six months ago was the best decision I’ve made in a while. Finding a community of supportive writers while practicing my craft has spurred my dream of becoming a writer.

Besides my work, my attention is taken up by menagerie of pets. Besides my little canine buddy, I have six felines, two of which were rescues that I couldn’t say no to. I have a passion for making their lives better. I’m also passionate about cooking and eating! I love music and occasional dancing. I’ve sung throughout my life at various venues, but now my busy life only allows for occasional karaoke at my nearly annual Christmas parties.

Leaving my recent full-time job has made me realize—I always knew!—how much I love staying home. I’m working hard on being able to work from home with freelance writing, online teaching, and perhaps a few in-person classes to get me out of the house. Sleeping in is nice, drinking coffee with a crossword or Sudoku is delightful, and easing into my day is just dreamy. Once things settle down a bit (do they ever?), and I get into my routine, I hope to also have more time for my cooking, some gardening, and occasional reading. I’m not a big traveler, but I would like to be able to visit my parents, relatives, and friends more often. I’m hoping that the new phase of my life that I’m working on will help me reach the dream life that I envision.

Jamie Brock

I am a 37 year old, (oops!) 38 year old mother of 3 :0/ The oldest is my daughter who is 18, and then my son who is 15 and also a toddler boy who just turned 4. I live in Texas in a very small town though I am not the small town type. I'd rather be in a very large city but such is life. I am more of a creative type person. I love anything to do with arts, crafts, photography, writing, researching things that interest me and anything that has to do with home décor. I love re-arranging the furniture often to create a fresh look which really irritates my husband :0) In this economy, I have learned to work with what I have and to be resourceful.

There is nothing more exciting to me than taking something that might be trash to other people and make it into something nice and valuable. As far as my personality, I think I am more of a quiet person than outgoing. I am shy with people I don't know but HubPages has helped me come out of my shell quite a bit. I am not a confrontational type person. I used to argue all the time but now I feel like it's a waste of energy. I guess I'm getting wiser in my old age :0)

I do have one bothersome peeve, and it is when workers are doing road construction in over 100 degree heat in the smoldering Texas summer. I know they have to make a living but GEEZ it is so uncomfortable standing still in a car when it's that hot... A couple more things- I can't stand using wire hangers and drinking cold beverages out of a coffee cup. The coffee cup thing really isn't a peeve, it's just that I can't do it. I've got to use coffee cups for coffee only...it's just my thing. One universal rule that I feel very strongly about is what some refer to as Karma. I truly believe we reap what we sow in this life and I keep that in my mind at all times.

After graduating from a Bachelor Degree in Science, I was fortunate enough to travel around the world and experience living in different countries.

These life occurrences lead me to develop a strong passion for photography and I became very much attracted to capturing images of things that where foreign to me, particularly different cultures, their curiosities and artistic expressions, including their gastronomy (which I also consider a form of art).

Today I am a freelance travel writer who uses her own photography in articles that showcase the beauty, food and interesting information of different cultures around the world. Besides travel, I also write about photography, art and food.

I have been an author on HubPages for over two years. Proudly Canadian, I have written many articles on the topic of my home country, Canada. A believer in education and self growth, I continue to learn and to teach those who are willing to learn. Every article I pen stems from the belief that each member of my audience will walk away with one piece of new information that they did not have before. From recipes to cooking methods, from travelling to history, from relationships to family, and from musical lyrics to poetry, my creativity and ability to connect with my readers grabs their attention from the very first word through to the last.

I have a professional background with experience in the construction, medical, legal and hi-tech sectors in private, public and crown corporations. A continuum throughout my personal and career life has been teaching. Not only do I teach students of all ages and backgrounds in software and technology, I am actively involved in coaching sports for children and youth. My passions, other than writing, include equestrian riding, sports, cooking and reading.

The most important part of my life is my family. My children come first in my life and as they grow, I am learning that the years and the patience of guiding and teaching are coming to fruition. It was with great celebration, on-line and off-line, when my daughter joined HubPages this year ( http://streetdancer.hubpages.com/ ). I am excited that she is discovering the beauty of the written word and how powerful it is to share it with others.

HubPages is a community of talented writers and friendly people. Grab yourself your favourite drink, come sit for a spell, and enjoy reading some wonderful pieces! Enjoy!

Brittany Todd

Brittany Todd is a young author of 22 years. Her motivation for writing came from years of displacement caused by her family's need to move around the island for work. By the time she reached middle school, she had lived in over fifteen different homes around the island and began keeping a journal as a way to find stability. She found a comfortable home by the time she entered high school, where she learned the importance of speaking and writing "Proper English" as opposed to the "Hawaiian Pidgin," which she was accustom to speaking. It was in this high school that she found a mentor and gained a passion for writing creatively as well as analytically.

Brittany then attended Occidental College, where she studied Sociology and English/Comparative Literary Studies. Brittany writes about a number of subjects now, including media/entertainment, literature and society. She now works for a business called I Love Bracelets, where she has a number of responsibilities (so many that it is hard to give her a job title).

Brittany plans to self-publish her young adult novel, Through the Lava Tube, sometime this Spring. The story is about a young boy that gets pushed into an ancient lava tube and when he comes out of the other end, finds himself in a different world. The story teaches young adults about the importance of self-confidence as well as alluding to important messages related to racial status in Hawaii and motivation.

Schoolgirlforreal and Blondey

Hello. My name is Rose and I've been writing for HubPages for almost 2 years. This has been a great experience for me as it has improved my writing skills and my confidence as a person.

I've written much on my own personal experience with health issues- depression, anxiety, and bipolar. My goal has been to help people who suffer from these symptoms by providing compassion and information as best I can in order to educate everyone so that they in turn can understand this "invisible illness" and hopefully take away something useful from my firsthand experience.

Aside from this "task", though it's really a pleasure, I've opened up another account "blondey" which provides an even greater release to express my deepest emotions of romance, love, and imagination. You may think from reading many of my articles under Schoolgirlforreal, that I'm naive and innocent- but I have quite a firey and sensual side. LOL.

Check out Schoolgirlforreal's and/or Blondey.(the names are linked so you can access one or the other, or both if you choose.

Lady Guinevere

Lady Guinevere is a charismatic person who has an affinity for writing. She started writing at Hub Pages in 2008.

Her purpose in her writing is to show the reader that there is a different approach to the meaning of life. She opens up minds by asking questions.

Although sometimes the questions are for herself, many she already knows the answer to. She plays the advocate, devil or what-have-you.

Veronica Farkas

"Raised tens of thousands of dollars for charities, bungee jumped twice, did radio and television commercials, helped dozens of people quit smoking, talked to thousands at schools, retreats, and conferences, was lead-intern of a company with forty or so employees below, created manuals (with the help of grants of over $750,000) for businesses and state government, was offered a full-time position at a well-known newspaper (to edit their online paper), was scouted internationally to play soccer, and had traveled cross-country and to Hawaii twice all before her senior prom? It's true! Meet Veronica Farkas; a down-to-earth, "do it all" type of girl, that is up for just about anything.

Veronica has a laundry list of desires and goals, and is crossing them off one by one. Writing, though, has remained a constant... a passion, and will never be left behind in the wake of the realist that is Veronica. There's very little that Veronica does not take a liking to, or try.

She especially likes when people take the time to do something nice for others. With that, Veronica thanks Cagsil for this beautiful hub!"

TheSingerNurse

Right now, Tina is not quite sure imagining a life of learning and writing without Hubpages. She was once researching on an article she was writing for her own website when she stumbled upon someone else’s hub. Having been captured with the layout and simplicity of the site, she decided to sign up for Hubpages. At first, she thought it was your typical blogging site where you can upload photos and write some rants or ramblings, though she was wishing (with fingers crossed) that it was something more than that. After almost eight weeks of publishing and hopping hubs, she knew she did the right move.

Who by the way is Tina Siuagan?

Tina, aside from being a Hubpages avid fan, is a registered nurse by profession. In 2011, she had practiced nursing at the University Physicians Medical Center, Manila, Philippines as a Triage and Intravenous Therapy Nurse. There, she had the opportunity to deal with people coming from all walks of life. She was able to see reality and courage in each individual and adored all the complexities of life. She knew she landed on one of the coolest and noblest of all professions.

When it comes to writing, Tina has always believed that she still had so many things to learn. Her writing flair was not something she acquired overnight. In 2010, she wrote for a website that caters specifically for nurse professionals all around the globe, while she was seeking employment. However, it was only in October 2011 that she fell in love with writing even more. Having suffered a health problem (which caused her to quit her second job), she found refuge, comfort, and satisfaction in writing. Her condition prevented her from speaking for almost two months so she had no choice but to write down her thoughts in words to enable her to connect and communicate with people. She was in the verge of succumbing to devastation, loneliness, and hopelessness when she found the healing power of writing. She continued even after the period of her recuperation and was so much surprised how much writing transformed her in to a totally different person.

So maybe some of you are wondering, why call her thesingernurse? Tina is a very passionate singer, songwriter, and music artist. Her greatest influence was Lea Salonga and she had been doing classical and broad way music since her fourth grade. When she went to college, she was exposed to a diverse group of people and musical preferences. That was the time she found out more about ROCK MUSIC. Since then, she never stopped listening to it. At present, she’s working her way to realizing her dream of becoming an Original Filipino Music artist and becoming the best rock vocalist and composer that she could be. When she’s not singing for her band AMIHAN, you’d surely find her in someone else’s wedding as a part-time wedding singer.

Believe it or don’t, Tina is also a model. Having won an image model search for nurses made her establish wonderful ties with some of the Philippine’s top-caliber photographers and make-up artists. She was also featured as one of the cover girls of ZEN HEALTH MAGAZINE (a popular health magazine in the Philippines) and became the image model of a nursing review institution named, Rachell Allen Reviewers USA. Amidst the offers for modelling stints, this once ugly duckling still could not believe that those fashion people find her beautiful…

Well, that’s all you need to know about her. She’d be very glad to hear more from you all.

DIY Wedding Planner

DIY's real name, or at least what her family knows her as is Patti...or Beverly...or Long Tall Sally, depending on who you ask. She really is a wedding planner and an avid DIYer, but in addition to writing for HubPages, also holds down a full-time job, runs an Etsy store, and plays single mom to two grown children and two kids still at home.

She hopes to one day quit her day job and devote herself to the wedding business, but although a dreamer, she is also a realist who knows she needs a 'real" job to pay the bills first. Her kids kinda enjoy eating, so it's a problem.

DIY is Southern through and through, but she's no dummy and gets a little on her high horse if you try to run down her home state, although she does fully realize the Civil War is over. She is what they call in the South, "killed with education" and hold a Bachelors' Degree in Journalism, a Master's Degree in Education, and is about half way to a PH.D that's probably never gonna happen.

However, she still clings to the hope that Dr. will one day precede her name. Or at least her new rich husband's name. :) She loves to laugh, loves children, and has three fur children living with her who are alternately throwing up or peeing on the hardwood floors she laid herself (they don't call her DIY for nothing!)

She enjoys her little fix-er-upper projects like putting up new light fixtures, laying tile, and putting in new faucets, but looks forward to the day when she can just call someone and pay them to do it! She's a loyal friend and those who know her well claim she has a huge heart. She believes it's a little on the Grinch-y size, but is repairable with time and attention.

I love the beach, the mountains, saltwater fishing, music, art, cooking, laughing, reading, writing, and all animals - especially dogs and horses. I also love God, although I'm not keen on organized religion.

Before I had to retire because of health issues, I was a literature and writing instructor. I write on Hubpages, my own blogs, my own website, and on a couple of other writing sites. I also have regular clients for whom I do freelance writing.

Thank you Cagsill for these hubs. You have done a great job and the great thing is being able to meet and read the work of hubbers I don't know yet.

Cagsil profile image

Cagsil Hub Author 3 months ago

Hey mljdgulley, it was my pleasure. I currently have a problem. That problem isn't going to allow me to finish the next two hubs. So, this series might be just the 5 hubs, instead of 6 hubs. I'm currently working on Hub #5 and it looks like that's about all I have to work with. So with that said, some people who wanted in are now out.

I have currently checked and re-checked, to see if there was an error somewhere and things got crossed up on my end, but it's not on my end. I cannot post what I do not receive. Thank you for visiting. I'm so happy everyone is enjoying the series. I hope you had a great Valentine's Day! :)
